E-Book Review of The Frugal Volunteer: The Give Back Traveller’s Guide to Exploring the World on a Shoestring Budget

I was chosen by The Amateur Traveler to review the E-book, “The Frugal Volunteer: The Give Back Traveller’s Guide to Exploring the World on a Shoestring Budget written by Nola Lee Kelsey.  This is my first attempt at a book review and I would welcome any and all feedback.

Nola Lee Kelsey is a self-proclaimed “serial volunteer” and writes from Chang Mai Thailand.

The Frugal Volunteer is a well-organized and concise guide for budget travelers to explore some of the volunteer opportunities available throughout the world. Ms Kelsey begins by describing the frugal volunteer and explaining the differences in “fee-based” and “fee-free” opportunities.  She uses easy to understand  icons to make the use of the guide very user-friendly.

The content is well-organized, beginning with a narrative describing the frugal traveler as well as  information on the structures of volunteer programs.  This is followed by concise information organized by country on specific volunteer programs.  Although I’m certain that her list is not all-inclusive, it provides a great start for anyone considering volunteer travel.

The costs of each program are clearly outlined for the reader.  For the purposes of this book, Ms Kelsey has limited her listings to those programs that are under $300 (usd) per week.
